Join us in raising awareness

As we acknowledge Meningitis Week, it’s time to shine a spotlight on this potentially life-threatening illness and empower communities with knowledge about its signs and symptoms. Meningitis can strike anyone at any age, and awareness is our greatest weapon in combating it.

From 6th May 2024 to 11th May 2024, we are dedicating our efforts to raising awareness about meningitis. This illness can progress rapidly, making it crucial for everyone to know what to watch for.

Recognising the Signs

Meningitis manifests in several ways, and recognising its symptoms early is key to prompt treatment. Here are some common signs to be aware of:

  1. High Fever: A sudden and high fever is often one of the first signs of meningitis.

  2. Severe Headache: Intense and persistent headaches can be indicative of meningitis.

  3. Stiff Neck: Difficulty bending the neck forward due to stiffness is a classic symptom.

  4. Nausea and Vomiting: These symptoms, particularly when combined with others, can signal meningitis.

  5. Confusion or Disorientation: Mental status changes, such as confusion or irritability, may occur.

  6. Sensitivity to Light: Bright lights may become intolerable for those with meningitis.

  7. Skin Rash: Some forms of meningitis present with a rash that does not fade under pressure.

While not everyone will experience all these symptoms, any combination should prompt immediate medical attention.

Meningitis Week is an opportunity for us to come together as a community and make a difference. In addition to raising awareness, we also provide training sessions on recognising the signs of meningitis and taking appropriate action. Our expert-led sessions offer valuable insights and equip individuals with the knowledge to respond effectively in potential meningitis cases.
